Albuquerque, NM -- Re: Press advisory: Panel discussion at National Press Club Wed. Nov. 13, 1-4 pm EST, with NNSA Administrator Hruby and others Dear colleagues and friends --
This is a reminder about the above event, which we believe will be valuable and newsworthy for those covering and working on nuclear weapons and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) issues.
This is a very large project, as stated in the press release. We believe the total acquisition cost of pit production capability under the current (two-site) program of record will be about $44 billion (B) -- more than three times the cost of the "Big Dig" in Boston ($12.6 B in today's dollars) and 44 and 55 times the inflation-corrected costs of the Hoover Dam and Golden Gate Bridge, respectively. We believe about half of this acquisition cost is being spent on an early-to-need, temporary capability. Others disagree, but let's talk about it.
Some seek a new nationwide environmental impact statement process reviewing the program. We don't, and we'll tell you why we think that's not a good idea.
If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Trish in our office, providing your cell phone number, to which Trish will send a QR code which the Press Club attendant can scan to let you go to the conference room. A paper image can be used in a pinch.
Thank you for your attention and we look forward to seeing some of you on the 13th. ***ENDS***
